2018 Macau GP: Rutter tops interrupted first practice

Macau GP veteran Michael Rutter bagged top spot in the opening free practice session today which ran for a total of 15 minutes after two big crashes.

Only minutes after pitlane opened, Andrew Dudgeon went down bringing out the red flags and then the session was stopped again when Raul Torres Martinez crashed at Mandarin and his bike promptly burst into flames.

Rutter took his Bathams Aspire-Ho backed Honda RC213V-S to top spot with a 1’29.232 with Peter Hickman 1.2s back in second on the Bathams BMW S1000RR.

Martin Jessopp took his PBM Ducati to third place with Horst Saiger fourth and Davo Johnson fifth and 3.281s off the pace.

Former Moto3 star Danny Webb bagged sixth place with Derek Sheils in seventh, Marek Cerveny eighth, Sam West ninth and Didier Grams in tenth.

TT legend John McGuinness ended in 11th place on his return to Superbike action, putting in a 2’36.422 on his PBM Ducati.

Michael Sweeney, Gary Johnson Andre Pires and Ben Wylie completed the top 15.
