Attempted theft – few weeks back Clondalkin area….

Howdy, I dont get on here much these days so apologies for the delay in posting this.

I was living in Clondalkin, boot road area up til very recently.

Early on the morning on June 28th I was up at 4am to get to the airport for a trip to Italy for a cycling holiday. I let the dog out the back to do her business and notice the gate on the gable end was open. I initially thought maybe I’d left it open but when I saw the shed door ajar I knew something wasnt right.

I looked in and saw the bike was still there so was relieved, but the two very old lids in the shed where gone (no use to anyone as they are very old and probably a danger if anything – so I hope they used them and had a fall)

I then checked the side gate and it had been cut at the hinge with a bolt cutters or angle grinder, a pretty good job too. I was up the walls as I was leaving the missus and dogs in the house and was worried theyd come back. So I was ringing the guards from the taxi going to the airport and texting my neighbour who very kindly took the bike into his very secure shed.

He has cctv and it caught the whole thing happening. They arrived and couldnt unlock the gate and returned a short while later. 5 of them, cut the hinge from the inside of the garden, and knocked off the shed door lock which was very weak to be fair. The alarm went off on the bike and thank God that scattered them. I’ve not been using it much recently, and the alarm disables after a few days so thankfully it wasnt at that stage or it would probably be gone.

I had to get my old man to stay with my missus for the week while I was away, its not a great area and I’d traveller neighbours on both sides (tho in fairness I’d no run-ins with them in 7 years there) and a lot of local scrotes around.

Coincidentally, I returned on the following Tuesday and we were moving house 4 days later (our landlady was selling up and we’d found a new place a month or so prior to this incident). I wont say where we are now in case the little twats read forums like this.

But they clearly knew my bike and where it was kept and were absolutely targeting it.

The alarm was the difference, and Ive always been a bit cynical on the benefits of bike alarms but it did the job this time.

Weird thing was my neighbour has 3 dogs, I’ve two (tho one is too old to notice this stuff) and none of them were alerted by this.

Anyway, I got lucky I guess. Just thought I’d post as a warning to anyone in the general Clondaklin area.

I hope the fuckers are caught some day and die in severe pain.
