HERE’S a better look at the KTM 1290 Super Duke R-based tourer we first showed you last November.

Rumoured to be called the 1290 Super Duke GT, the new tourer uses the 1301cc V-twin engine from the 1290 Super Duke R and 1290 Super Adventure, meaning 180hp potential.

Taken near a KTM testing facility in Spain, the new shot gives a more detailed view than we got last year, when the machine was seen leaving the same facility in heavy disguise.

Camouflage tape has been removed from the front end, providing a better view of the pointed nose and tall screen.

A heat shield has been added to the exhaust.

Many components appear to be shared with the Super Duke R, including the wheels, brakes, forks and main chassis.

A more substantial subframe has been added, presumably for greater luggage carrying potential. The 1290 Super Duke GT has also gained wider bars for a more upright riding position.

The new model will effectively make a successor to the 990 SMT, a touring version of the discontinued 990 Supermoto.

Expect an official unveiling of the 2016 model this autumn.
