Lorenzo to remain with Movistar Yamaha for 2016

YAMAHA Factory Racing Managing Director Lin Jarvis has confirmed today that Jorge Lorenzo will remain with Yamaha until the end of the 2016 season.

Speaking to motogp.com, Jarvis explained that Lorenzo will stay with the Factory Movistar Yamaha team until the end of his current contract which ends after the 2016 season. Lorenzo will once again line up alongside Valentino Rossi next year in the Yamaha garage.

Rumours suggested that the Spaniard may have been looking to move elsewhere in the MotoGP paddock at the end of the year due to a rough start to the 2015 MotoGP season, but the deal to continue with the Yamaha team has been done at Jerez today.

“I can assure you and I can assure the MotoGP™ paddock that Jorge will be with Yamaha for 2016,” explained Jarvis.

“We have spoken together already and its already clear, he wants to stay with us, we want to stay with him, it’s done, so Jorge will be with us this year and next. It’s a fact!”

Jarvis also confirmed that both parties had the option to terminate the contract early, but it was not what neither team nor rider wanted.
