A few jobs on the MZ

A few jobs on the MZ

The Commie bike needed a bit of TLC so I decided to get stuck in & sort it out. The exhaust was waddied, there were so many holes in it that it looked like a pin cushion. The ignition/light switch was also waddied, you’d lose ignition every time the lights were switched on. It also needed a pair of mirrors. First off was the exhaust. Once I had taken it off for inspection it made a depressing sight (you can only see some of the holes in the pic)

Anyway, I tackled it with the MiG welder & after an hour of welding-up holes it was ready to go back on the bike. I must admit that the welding looks like bird shit but it was the best that I could do considering the state of the pipe :bag:

Mirrors were next on the agenda. I had a pair from my old Nighthawk & even though they were fairly rough I decided to use them anyway. They fit in well with the overall look of the bike :biggrin_old: It wasn’t possible to fit them to the handlebars in the usual manner, so I put them on as if they were bar-end mirrors. They might look a bit gammy but I don’t care

Then it was time to tackle the lights. I wasn’t going to pay around fifty yoyos for a new MZ switch. I got a Lucas three position switch (OFF-ON 1-ON 1+2) & I set about adapting things to suit

After the usual few bad connections had been sorted out, there was light :biggrin_old:

I like this old bike a lot. Looking forward to having fun with it during the summer, if we get one :unsure2:
