BSA A10 Restoration Project

BSA A10 Restoration Project

Took a decision a few years ago to “Improve” my ’61 BSA A10, she was dumping oil if left standing for any period of time (a common problem with these yokes), but other than that she was fine, or so I thought, I dropped her in to John O’Regan to see if he could fit an SRM part that stops this, long story short, John gave me the bad news that there was about 4mm side play in the crank and would need to be reconditioned, that news along with the fact that the forks were rusting, as were the inside of the rims, the rear shocks were shot and the saddle was the incorrect type for the bike, I reckoned it was worth a full resto, the bike is an original Irish model with the brown book going back to the sixties with an old three letter, two number,Dublin plate, so I figured she was worth putting the effort into it, in the end it turned out to be a nut and bolt restoration with just about everything reconditioned or replaced, the journey took three years and as I’m finally coming to end of the project, I thought I’d throw up a few photos of the project from as the bike was, to the final restoration and give a description of each stage of the process.

Here’s the original un-restored bike, looks OK in the picture, but at this point she was starting to get to the end of her useful life without a lot of attention.
