Has anyone else has the misfortune of having had an insurance claim through Carole Nash handled by a shower in Belfast called MIS? These people really are something else. On my Policy Schedule the ‘estimate value’ is 5,000, even though ‘their’ valuer puts the replacement value of the bike at 5,500 they refuse to pay any more than the ‘estimated value’. The cost to replace the bike using DoneDeal or Autotrader can easily be seen to be around 6,500. They say they are not required to pay anything more than the estimated value. This is not written anywhere in the insurance documents. Surely the underlying principle of insurance is to replace the insured item? (not to be any better off but not to be any worse off). In deciding to provide the policy the insurance company has all the details required to value the bike and assess risk in the absence of an estimated value and this is the case with car insurance. I believe I am being unfairly penalised for undervaluing the bike at time of renewing the policy (i was told the value only need to be a rough guess). After the accident Carole Nash did increase the estimated value to 6,500 and it made absolutely no difference to the insurance company’s quotation. The bike is a Category B write off. Despite being prepared to sign a legal certification saying the bike is scrapped they are refusing to let me take possession of the wrecked bike. Am I getting fucked over here? Should I refer this to the Financial Ombudsman? Any advise would be greatly appreciated………………………….. BTY I’ve had more satisfying arguments with my toe nails than with the crowd of brick walls in MIS they are frustrating and vexatious (not smart, not coherent and hardly human – I’ve spoken to three of them and they all appear to have attended the same fascist school of charm)……. on the bright side nonetheless so long as there are so many of these azzoles around I would expect there will be little room in hell for any of the rest of us.
