One of the ladies in our group decided to try an oil and filter change for the first time last week. (Kwaker er-6 parallel twin) Anyway, she fits a new filter, sump plug in and starts the bike. At this stage remembers that the oil isn’t in it yet! She turns it off puts in oil starts it up and all seems well.
Can’t be good for it I know, but I think she may have got away with it for the following reasons. The bike was warmed up before dropping the oil so at least a small amount was coating the bits. The last oil change was about 3500 miles ago thereabouts with semi-synth so it would still have some consistency. She reckons it ran for only 30 seconds to 1 minute at idle speed without being revved. It didn’t appear to heat up or make any funny noises.
I took it out yesterday for a spin and it seems to be working just fine. No sign of any knocks scrapes ticks or anything unusual from the engine. I did think that maybe another oil and filter change and see if there are any metal bits in it might be on the cards.
I’m no expert so I thought I’d ask you lads. Any opinions?
