"Something we usually mention on our ‘Science of Being Seen’ talk for Biker Down is the phenomenum of ‘dazzle camouflage’. Here’s a good example of how the disruptive pattern breaks up the solid outline and confuses the eye."

"This exactly demonstrates why I refuse to wear those reflective belts and bandoliers and waistcoats that are supposed to make us all more noticeable. The effect instead is to chop the silhouette of a rider into segments which the viewer then has to reassemble, which takes time – or yards. We need to be recognised by the ‘lizard brain’ which is quicker but stupider, it reacts to clearly identifiable shapes. In my humble opinion the absolutely safest thing to look like is the universal black drawing of a motorcyclist on the road signs. Anything else is worse. I confess to riding a coloured bike, but I wear black while sitting on it."
