"This exactly demonstrates why I refuse to wear those reflective belts and bandoliers and waistcoats that are supposed to make us all more noticeable. The effect instead is to chop the silhouette of a rider into segments which the viewer then has to reassemble, which takes time – or yards. We need to be recognised by the ‘lizard brain’ which is quicker but stupider, it reacts to clearly identifiable shapes.
