I rarely use ear plugs when on short trips out etc, but I was wondering, if I use headphones, does this negate the idea of saving your hearing when on the bike.

Earplugs are used to protect from wind noise, exhaust drone etc etc, so would listening music, while drowning out the wind noise etc, not be as harmful, or even a distraction.
