first time for me this Sunday, cant wait!

I believe for parking, it is advisable to park in first gear, turn off the motion sensor on the alarm, and throw something over the seat to stop it getting damaged by the ratchet straps? Am I missing anything?

Also, is it ok to carry a jerry can full with spare fuel on the ferry?

Anything else I should take? Or a better alternative to the above?
