Front ended by trailer – best way to go from here?

Ok,

Had a van towing a trailer reverse into me at the lights on Friday. He claimed he didn’t see me. Said he was too far forward and needed to reverse, mind you he was there for a good 30/40 seconds before deciding to reverse. I tried backing off the bike when I saw him come closer, hit the horn but wasn’t fast enough. Back of the trailer caught my front tire, the wheel turned fully to the right until it couldn’t turn any further. End story is the handlebars are off by about 4 or 5 degrees, and the forks *may* be twisted.

Need to have it fully accessed on Tuesday.

The van driver said get a quote for the repairs and he will pay, but doesn’t want to go through his insurance. In the heat of it all I never got his insurance details so all I have is a name and the van reg.

If he decides to be awkward and not pay up (no idea what a set of bars and forks will cost, new bike so am guessing expensive) what options are open to me?

Any point in going to the Garda, with just a reg and my version of events? Or could it be put through on my insurance and take the hit next year when the premium is hiked up?

Cheers,

sombaht
