Gear driven cams.

Gear driven cams.

Gear driven cams have kind of died out since the early noughties with Hondas vfr800fi going to vtec.

Now I know Honda were not the only ones to ever use Gear driven cams HD used them, some aprilias in the past and other itilian stuff but Im more interested in the Honda GDC models.

First off why were they fazed out?

I know they are hevier, more expensive than chain cams and some romours around noise issues (they arent that loud.)

But as road bikes go most hondas with geared cams are reffered to as bullet proof.

Surley there is still a place for gear driven cams in modern adventure bike for less maintenance?

Or is everything being built to be replaced now.

So can anyone think of any others apart from this list?

Cb400 super4

Cbr250 r and rr

Vfr400

Rvf400

Vfr750 to 800fi

Vtr1000 sp1

Any other Jap bikes with them?

I know there are disavantages to them like they dont take well to skimming a head if needed so I dont think they are perfect but feck ya cant beat that geared whine.
