Insurance Renewal Advice

Hey fellas,

Jaysus man…I’ve been a Biker.ie :bikerie:member for a decade this month….sweet.

Anyways back to why I’m here..my insurance is due renewal at the end of next month and I’m actually starting to sweat every time I have to think about it and here’s why. I’ve been riding bikes since 08 on a full Irish driving license (if that makes any difference) and all this time I sourced my insurance through brokers based in the North due to the fact they always came cheaper than the ones based in the Republic (initially it was with Adelaide, but for the past few years I believe they’ve changed ownership or something like that and ended up with Cornmarket). Last May I’ve got my renewal at €345 (10 years NCB) which was fantastic, however, at the time they’ve renewed it I was told this was the last year they’ll will renew policies because they will no longer offer their services to folks based in the South (not entirely sure why but I think it has something to do with Brexit…maybe). Anyway, I accepted their update and decided will wait and worry about renewal closer to when I’m actually due to get a new one. The issue I’m having is that in June of last year, I was overtaking stopped traffic on Marken Street (legal manoeuvre @ legal speed), when a cyclist jumped in front of me from between two cars and I clipped him. Anyway long story short, the fecker ended up putting in a claim which my insurance crowd decided to settle due to lack of witnesses (in other words they told me it was a case of “he say she say” and will not risk it in court). The settlement was for €25K + 1K legal fees (I’m still fecking raging each time I have to think about it…grrr), but now I’m put in a situation where I have to start calling for quotations and I’ve no idea how will this affect my premium (I have NCB protection on the current policy but I’m not naïve and am fully aware it will hit me). Any thoughts what’s the best plan of action for me not to get “skinned” when starting to call around? (Cornmarket told me they’ve sent the details to CN, who will contact me with a quotation, but so far I haven’t heard back). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ( I assume when I call the insurance crowds I’ll have to tell them about the incident even though I have the protection clause on my current policy, right?).

Thanks again and apologies for the wall of text.

Kind regards,

your one and only “my name is bill and im a head case”:smileee:

:thumbsup2:
