One Woman, one motorbike

This was mentioned in a thread about 2 geebags with armed security, helicopters and 5 star accommodation, being paid millions in advertising and sponsorship deals to act like real bikers for week on a television show, but I think she deserves her own thread ;

A 32-year old, Dutch, solo-female traveller – currently on a mission to travel the world on her Royal Enfield Himalayan.

At age 23, I finished my MSc. degree in Geochemistry. I left for Australia to collect geochemical samples for the PhD research which was going to kick off as soon as I would return. It all turned out differently. Not wanting to go back to Holland, I ended up working in gold mining – became rich and backpacked solo around the world for 2 years.

Completely broke and homeless I returned to Holland to find a job again. The following 5 years I worked for an international contractor and did the craziest projects from the Bahama’s and Brazil, all the way to Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Morocco and many places in between. But working in all these different countries was never the same as being a full-time traveller. So I made a decision: I quit my job, sold my stuff and hit the road again!

If you’re bored over the Christmas it’s worth watching a few of her videos, hardly spielberg stuff but realistic with just a go-pro camera and interesting insight as to how the other half lives.

It’s very easy to just turn up and visit somewhere then spout bollocks about this and that, but to grab a gopro and record footage to upload takes real effort and determination, she’s a very brave girl you can’t help but think that someone big and strong like Oisin Hughes would be needed to fend off the creepy pervs and keep her safe out there, maybe she knows Jujutsu or something !

So far she’s been on sandy beaches and broken gravel roads (without crashing) that’d scare the living crap out of most experienced male bikers (okay, maybe not bogman), but a seriously impressive achievement for anyone, let alone a wee girlie with pigtails, so far !
