Ride to Slieve League

Ride to Slieve League

Took a ride on 2 of the beasts today, one to give nelly a run out with the new reg rec as far as Donegal town and after that, gambling on the weather, took the Yam to Slieve League. You wouldn’t want to be shy on the chop, people just gravitate to it. She’s running well, I just need to secure a dust cover on the rear hub and replace the stuck brake pressure switch to give the brake light a second chance.

The Yam was a little problematic today though. First the battery was dead yesterday, charged it overnight but she wouldn’t start without a jump after putting the battery back in. Reckon the battery is on the way out. Seeing as I replaced the clocks, I needed to check the mounting was secure, which it turned out was not the case. Then I noticed the fairing and headlight bracket were loose and the side mount bolts for the fairing were loose too. Then one of the footrest bolts on the left disappeared. Ho hum. Whoever reassembled the bike after repainting needs to be introduced to the concept of a socket set.

Anyway, lots of torqueing this evening and all is well.

I love carbs! It pops and bangs really nicely on the closed throttle with the straight through pipes. When you jump from a proper superbike to something with 60 horses, it seems like you keep running out of gears, but small bikes are intoxicating, and just so involving to ride. Plus, if you haven’t ridden from Donegal town out to Slieve League, the road is pretty good, just watch out for the tourists. Lots of blind tight corners both sides of Killybegs so keep the right hand under check if you are inclined to push on a bit. The last bit up to the viewing point is first gear after the gate, but the view is amazing. It would even be worth a hike up to one man pass to get the full effect, but make sure the bike is well anchored, cos the wind is pretty strong up at the viewpoint.

I don’t get many shots of me on the bike, but an obliging tourist offered….
