What is the YMSA?

YMSA is one of only two governing bodies for the sport of motocross in Ireland (the other governing body being Motorcycling Ireland MCUI).

Southwestern MX, Leinster Off Road, Milverton Off Road MCC and the MotoCross Club of Northern Ireland are the clubs in Ireland affiliated to the YMSA. Each and every club must abide by their governing body’s Code of Conduct and rules.

The benefits of riding with a club affiliated to one of these governing bodies is that you can be sure that the club’s officials (Clerk of the Course, Child Protection Officer, marshals etc) have relevant training and experience, that a permit for the event has been paid for and issued, that the required standards of professional paramedic and ambulance cover will in place and, of course, that event insurance is in place.

Your club membership entitles you to ride with any of the other affiliated clubs and your YMSA/MCI licence will be recognised by other mx governing bodies. Your licence fee (whether annual or day) partly goes to finance the governing body, allowing them to put on training days, organise championships, put together teams to compete nationally/internationally etc.

So, make sure your chosen motocross club is YMSA/MCI affiliated!
