An open letter to the mci / short circuit committee

Hi All ,

To whom it may concern ,

As you may be aware , a number of marshals from the motorcycle marshals association (MMA) are looking for ratification of the use of the green flag during racing for next season . This is due to be discussed at the Inter Centre Conference and I am writing to ask for your support on this matter . At the moment we are not allowed to use the green flag to show a definite point on track where riders are allowed to resume racing after a yellow flag incident . The rule is riders cannot resume racing until after the next flagpost but without a flag on display it is very difficult for a rider to recognise where this flagpost is and it is also open to confusion as there may be ground marshals posted between flagposts and the riders may be mistaken into thinking these are flagposts as there is no way of actually identifying the next flagpost . There is also a very serious safety aspect , if there are two incidents in a sector , the riders may pass the first incident ,( and as we’ve been told by numerous riders , there is a misunderstanding of the rule , as a lot of riders think you can race again after you pass the incident ), and be unaware of a second incident that maybe over a blind crest / corner . The use of green flags will eliminate all confusion as to where the yellow sector ends and the track is clear to carry on racing . Hopefully , with your support , we will be allowed introduce the green flag into racing for 2016 and it will make the sport safer for all concerned .
