My first "touring" experience…

My first "touring" experience…

Not really sure if you can call it touring though…headed off thursday morning got back this morning.

The planned route was stick to the wild atlantic way and the coast as much as possible from cork city to galway city, taking our time and enjoying the spin. I was on my vfr 750 rc36 and the buddy on his superduke.

Day 1: We loaded up the bikes left cork at 10:30 thursday morning. I used oxford 48litre soft pannier that I got in Lees for 65quid and an aldi tankbag which was perfect. Got tools, wallet, phone, sunglasses in case, two bottles of water, disc lock, gopro and mounts, visor cleaner and cloth. For 17bucks, couldnt go wrong! In the panniers then I managed to fit the hi vis, and waterproof overalls, spare gloves and undergloves and a couple of balaclavas. All the clothes then in the second bag. The buddy used a 35litre tail pack he got from Lees for 45 bucks and an aldi tank bag. Both were more than Ideal for what we needed em for!

So we headed for kinsale-timoleague-clon and headed down to leap for the grub! Weather was spot on!

Left Leap and headed further west, and got absolutely p!ssed on from schull to crookhaven, ands then all the way back to Durrus. Had a richa waterproof overpants and it was spot on. Also had a waterproof jacket I got from Lidl about 7 years ago for a festival and it fitted over the leather jacket and didnt let a drop in! Best 30quid I ever spent! Zipped all the way up to the neck too and wasnt at all restricting.

Got back to Bantry, skipped sheeps head because the weather was woeful, but by the time we got to Bantry it was drying up and the sky over by Glengarrif looked to be clearing.

We were staying in the folks caravan in eagle point so we went over and dropped off some gear and got out of the waterproofs (well i did….the buddy had to stay wet) I was really surprised by the protection of the vfr, on the zed id of been soaked but the boots were well protected from the rain and stayed bone dry. Same with the legs. The only part of me exposed were my hands, shoulders and head, and even then I wouldnt really notice they were exposed unless I started thinking about it. Dropped the gear and headed off around the beara peninsula. And there wasnt a cloud in the sky for most of it. We were haunted!
