2004 YZF 250 Starting Issues

2004 YZF 250 Starting Issues

Hi
I have an 04 YZF 250 MX ….. Problem is starting the damm thing ! I’ve owned my fair share of Off road bikes both 2 Stroke & 4 Stroke and never had any hassles starting any of them , but this one has to take the mantle for "PIG TO START !!"
I bought the bike from a dealer (A reputable dealer I must add)and it was fully checked over in the Valve clearance dept and I have no doubt it was sorted, but It still remains a pain to start from Cold or Hot ? The drill I use to start it is as follows :
Fuel On
Choke On
2 Cracks of the Throttle
Pump the Kick Starter to find TDC
Pull the DeComp Lever & Slowly push the starter until I feel the slightest movement on the decomp lever
Then release De Comp lever
Bring Kick Start Back Up
Pull in Clutch and give it a good Kick
…. Now on ocassions , mainly when I’m at home and the bike is up on the stand this drill will work , but when your out in the field its a different story, bar you can get a tree to lean against so you can stand above the kick starter its nigh on impossible …. I’d be about 6’2" and have a good few pound to put behind the starter so its not that I’m weak :smileee:
When the bike is running the engine is tight and strong feeling and as I was told when I bought it I dont think its had a hard life , It is however a bit "Poppy & Bangy" when you close the throttle , my old CRF did that a little bit nothing to the extent of this YZF
Any Ideas ….. Valves , Jetting ??? Anyone had this experience themselves

Cheers:thumbsup2:
