Honda XR650L cutting out

Honda XR650L cutting out

A few weeks ago, I had the bike cut out on me just as I pulled in to the carpark in work in the morning. Wouldn’t restart, so I pushed it up to where I park up, and went in to work. After work, fearing it wasn’t going to start, but optimistic that it would, I went out & it started up as easy as any other normal day – sweet! Got home no bother, though only a couple of miles.

Couple of days later, after nipping into town for a few bits, couple more miles, it cut out as I was waiting at traffic lights – again, no restart. Luckily, just around the corner from home, so pushed it back. Next day, restarted no bother.

Bit of searching and I found this article:

I ordered up an enhanced cdi from RmStator.com, part RM02164:

Since fitting it have had no more random cutouts. The new unit apparently has “Enhanced timing curve, increased rev limiter (approximately 1000 rpm)”, and the bike does feel like it has a little bit more poke to it.

The stock cdi is also shared with the 650 Dommie, and the 650 Transalp, so worth keeping in mind if you are having similar issues. :thumbsup2:
