Ktm 950 sm
Ktm 950 sm
Short Story, Ask.
Should I replace the coils in my SM 950 as it loses power intermittently and is now at nearly 70K KM on the clock.
Long Story, just like the issue 🙂
Iv had an intermittent issue with the 950 for a while now as in a few years.
Loses power at random times, until I give it a fist of throttle she backfires and usually comes back to live with full power. Sometimes i end up on the side of the road cut out, takes a few starts and revs to get going.
Sounds like she is running fine but once i start to ease of the clutch she will die again unless i bang her of the rev limiter and try and try until she bites.
I had the carbs out last year and in very competent hands for a cleaning and put back together, he did mention a jet or needle seemed to be a off a clip (i don’t know carbs well apart from getting the cradle out and back in) . When I got it back from him she ran perfect for quite a while but after being driven quite hard for a week on the Isle of Man and the summer months ripping to wexford and back a few ties a week the old probs started again, slowly at first but progressively getting worse.
Before i take the carbs out and give it back to him, another buddy always felt it was the coils.
As the bike is highesh on the clock should I do this anyway?
I have replaced the fuel pump twice, have a facet in it now.
Have had it with m5 Honda KTM, when Paul was there and it didn’t act the bollox while in there. Still cost me a few quid for them to look at it running perfect 🙂
Anyway thanks for reading.
Any other advice gladly taken.
