More Transalp woes in Africa.

More Transalp woes in Africa.

There’s the long story here http://www.biker.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=225807, this is the short version, this is the short story.

Bike wouldn’t start a few weeks ago in Senegal and the fuse box was piping hot. Various 125 cc mechanics got it started only for it to die again within a day or two again.

The third of them found a broken fuse and two severed cables which when fixed seemed to be the answer…only for it not to start again the next morning.

Had a new Japanese battery put in by a big bike mechanic, only for it not to start again the next day. Changed the regulator (highly fortunate to find a spare in Senegal) and it seemed perfect for five days.

Lights started playing tricks two days ago and it wouldn’t start again this morning. Not a sound when I hit the starter button.

Now a local mechanic has found another severed cable. He’s fixed it but the battery is dead. I still think the fuse box is hot again, as well the cables around there, but the mechanic says it’s just the heat from the engine. This never happened crossing the desert and has coincided with my mechanical problems, so I’m pretty sure he’s wrong.

So he wants to put another new battery in tomorrow convinced that this will fix it. But it sounds to me like there has to be another problem at the foundation of it all.

A) is there anything else explicable could account for this

B) am I mad to try to push on 1,000 kms to Freetow in Sierra Leone (where I really want to go) as opposed to back 300 kms to store the bike with a mate in Senegal?
