I got my 1st road bike during the week its a 1988 CBR 400rr . its in great conditionn for the year & has only 8000 kms on engine from new (jap imported in 2005) two previous owners .
Both of which done very little milage, the previous owner (since 2009) who I bought it off gave me a receipt of service work done by clonmel motorcycles ltd in 2010 carbs cleaned / Synchronized etc.. No major work was needed, the milage on receipt was 7650kms & its now only at 7980kms, so has only done 300odd kms in 4years.

So when I got bike the other day.. 1st thing done was charged dead battery ran for 20mins (kept cutting out every few mins) went for a quick spin then put away until 2day , I read up on general importance of using correct oil (as car oil contains friction inhibitors etc).. N was advised by local bike shop to go with 4t semi syntethic 10w40 would suit best with lower milage, so i changed oil ( also added Lucas oil additive rough 300ml 10% )& oil filter . The battery was still dead as.. so i charged it off jeep !! Started it up with choke it began to warm
When it reached normal temp was when I went to rev it with choke up its would just cut out / if didn’t rev& just released choke it would cut out.. !! I repeated process
couple of times with same result . Im goin to buy new battery Monday so I’ll see how it goes with that but I reckon its more of a fuel / air flow issue ?! Probily most likely from not being driven proberly over the the years.. Maybeit just needs a good drive ?! Is there a good product that can be mixed into fuel to ?! or am i just better off sending it straight to mechanic to get sorted.. ?!

Its my 1st proper bike.. And as much as i want to get my bearings with it , I don’t want to do any more harm messing around d with it , to what could be a simple fix for an expert.
