Stripped Oil Pan Threads

Stripped Oil Pan Threads

Well,

Rookie mistake I overtightened the sump bolt on my last oil change got a nice surprise there stripped the threads on the pan so it won’t tighten fully. I need to get this sorted asap I’m on a borrowed bike, nd can’t really be spending a fortune on it don’t really want to be getting a van for the bike bringing it to a shop etc. So far I understand the options are:

– Use a Helicoil insert
– Oversized Sump plug either self tapping or use a tapping bit
– Replace Oil pan

If I could get an oversized self-tapping bolt that would be the handiest, I’ll coat her in grease to catch swarf and flush through with oil a few times after to make sure. I’ve seen piggyback bolts where the big one is self tapping and you glue it in permanently and there is a smaller bolt running through the middle for drainage. Does anyone know where I can get one of these, not having much luck online, or does anyone have a tapping bit or any other suggestions to get me out of this little bit of bother?

Much appreciated.
