SV spluttering and almost dying

SV spluttering and almost dying

My first thought is spark plugs but thought I’d ask here first before I go taking the bike apart.

When I start the bike up I’ll give her plenty of choke to warm up, bike starts grand, warms up then I knock the choke off and leave her to idle and she’ll idle for a few seconds then start to splutter and almost die until I give a good rev, she fires up again then slowly starts to splutter. If I run her out for about 5 mins she’s back to idling fine again. So, any ideas?

I’m thinking spark plugs crusted in crap that might be doing it but wouldn’t that problem persist even after driving for a while?

Could bad fuel do something like this?

Anything else?

a google search came back with fuel clogging maybe, cause it’ll run fine with a bit of choke on and the bike was sitting for about 8 months. I’m back home since start of December though and the problem is only starting now in the last day or two so I thought I got lucky with the bike standing for so long and no problems when I got back…

I’m wondering cause the bike runs fine after 5 mins and have done a few spins for an hour each way on the motorway and there’s plenty of go even in 6th gear, if it was the plugs wouldnt the bike be struggling up at higher speeds as well?
