Dakar rally update after stage 11

TODAY is stage 12 of the Dakar and Australian Red Bull KTM rider Toby Price is the overall leader in the bike category.

In yesterday’s stage the Price followed the pace of his rivals before making a special effort on the second half of the stage. He has a lead of more than 35 minutes over second place Stefan Svitko.

HRC Honda rider Paulo Gonçalves was forced to withdraw after a fall. He tweeted that he’ll be back stronger for 2017.

Antoine Meo, who was fourth overall yesterday morning battled with third place Pablo Quintanilla. The two riders were  separated by 1min 15secs at the start of the special stage and fought each other constantly during the special with Meo upping  the pace when the Quintanilla encountered brake problems.

Stefan Svitko finished fifth on the stage – 12 minutes behind the Meo. Svitko is currently second in the general standings, but only has a lead of 8mins 23sec over Meo so it’s possible that Meo could catch him to take second place before the end of the Dakar.
