Getting a dirt bike road legal

Getting a dirt bike road legal

After doing a bit of research i couldn’t find any consecutive answers,

what is involved in getting something like a yz125 or a yzf 250 road legal?

1) can this only be done if the bike is bought new, or can it be done to a 10 year old bike?

2) is there any exemptions for bikes older than 93 (like there is for getting a log book for a road bike)

4) in England you can get a daytime MOT, is there anything similar here to avoid adding lights, indicators etc

5) do you need to get signed off by the commissioner of oaths to swear the bike isn’t stolen? (needed for getting a log book for a pre 93 bike)

6) does it need to undergo a road worthiness test of any description?

7) If i got a road registered one from England, will it be as straight forward as pay the VRT and get it insured?

8) would a 2 stroke be harder to get through due to emissions?

9) could this fall into a category similar to trikes, that you would almost be restringing it as a custom build of some description?

for a bit of background, i am looking for a fully fledged off-road bike, not an adventure bike. i already have an XT600 and its great fun, but its just way too heavy and clumsy off road compared to a 250 2 stroke.

i know road mileage will age them terribly, but it would just be to get 2-3 miles along the road to get to trails, or to do the likes of the paddy Dakar.

any information is appreciated :thumbsup2:
